This is 14 days tour package will take you to Mount Kilimanjaro – the roof of Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world; the tour will also take you to the spice islands of Zanzibar. You will conquer the majestic Kilimanjaro before going to Zanzibar for a relaxing and refreshing beach holiday.
For the Kilimanjaro climb, you have the option to choose between Machame Route, Marangu Route, and Lemosho Route; you will do whichever of the three routes you select.
– Machame Route – this route is usually done in 6 – 7 days; for this tour package, you will do the 6 days version.
– Marangu Route – this route is usually done in 5 -6 days; for this tour package, you will do the 6 days version.

Day - Day Itinerary

DAY 1: JRO – INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL - ARUSHA

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and assisted by Africa Marula Holiday & Safaris representative. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Arusha arriving in time for check in. Rest of the day at leisure. All meals are excluded. 

After Breakfast you will be picked up from hotel and depart to Tarangire National Park for game drive with picnic lunches. Tarangire is famous for big groups of Elephants and astonishing landscapes where guests will have an opportunity to experience the few remaining ancient large Baobab trees. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D).

After Breakfast you will be picked up from hotel and depart to Lake Manyara National Park for game drive with picnic lunches. Lake Manyara National Park provide unique wilderness experience Including diverse landscapes such as rifts valley soda lake, open grasslands, dense woodlands and stunning mountain insides, In the afternoon visit Mto Wa Umbu township; sightsee, enjoy and indulge yourself in the diverse culture of Tanzania as you take a guided walking tour through the local streets of Mto wa Mbu, returning to the lodge.Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. After breakfast, set off and drive to the shores of Lake Eyasi and visit the Hadzabe & Datoga indigenous ethnic group
The Hadzabe & Datoga-are an indigenous ethnic group in north-central Tanzania, living around Lake Eyasi in the central Rift Valley and in the neighbouring Serengeti Plateau. There are, as of 2015, between 1,200 and 1,300 Hadza people living in Tanzania, however only around 300 Hadza still survive exclusively based on the traditional means of foraging. As descendants of Tanzania’s aboriginal hunter-gatherer population, they have probably occupied their current territory for thousands of years, with relatively little modification to their basic way of life until the past hundred years.
You will have packed box lunch, and in the afternoon visit Simba Milima School, before returning to the lodge. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D). 

After breakfast, you will be picked up with our driver guide with picnic lunches and proceed to Ngorongoro crater for game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, Afternoon depart with en-route game drive. After breakfast, you will be picked up with our driver guide with picnic lunches and proceed to Serengeti National Park for game drive, on the way you will have chance to visit Maasai Village and experience many traditional aspects of Maasai life, but also see how the Maasai adapt to development and contact with modern civilization. All visits are planned and arranged by Maasai themselves, they will show you their tradition Maasai dance ad singing, different type of Maasai houses, tradition beard ornaments, the O’Brien School for the Maasai and you can also walk with their cattle o the plains. Afternoon depart with en-route game drive to Serengeti National Park The endless plains of the Serengeti lie 330km of Its 15,000 sq kms support the annual migration of over 3 million wildebeest, zebra and other plains game as they follow the rains in their continual search for grass and water. They are closely followed in turn by Africa’s largest concentration of lion and a host of other predators. Evening return to the standard and type of accommodation option requested for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D).

These two full days will be spent following the great migration in the Serengeti; depending on the time of the year, you will observe one of the following aspects of the great migration.
– Wildebeest Calving (Calving Season – Ndutu Region): January to March
– Grumeti River Crossing – Grumeti River: May to July
– Mara River Crossing – Mara River: August to October
– Migration back to the Serengeti (from Masai Mara): November & December

After breakfast, your driver will drive you to Seronera Airstrip which is located inside Serengeti National Park; from here, you will fly on a light aircraft to the spice islands of Zanzibar.
On arrival in Zanzibar, our guide will drive you to your hotel in Stone Town; late in the afternoon, you will head out for a tour of Prison Island. Prison Island, is home to a historical slave museum and giant tortoises. In the evening, you will head out to Forodhani Gardens where you will enjoy seafood with the locals; here the catch of the day is prepared and sold to locals and tourists. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (Half board). 

After breakfast, you will head out to the historical Stone Town where time seems to have stood still; here you will see ancient wind alleyways as they were walked upon by the inhabitants of the city hundreds of years ago. You will also see historical buildings and places such as the House of Wonders (Beit al Ajaib), the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), the Arab Fort and the Slave Chambers amongst many other attractions.
You will also visit crafts shops, coffee shops, and the central market. Late in In the afternoon, you will be driven to Nungwi Beach where the rest of the day will be spent at leisure on the beach. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (Half board). 

These three days will be spent at leisure on the beach; you can add in a number of water sports to your beach routine. Depending on your preferences, you can also engage in diving, snorkeling, paragliding, jet skiing and beach volleyball. Late in the afternoons, you will enjoy watching beautiful sunsets as the sun disappears across the turquoise Indian Ocean. Day - Day Itinerary

DAY 1: JRO – INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL - ARUSHA

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and assisted by Africa Marula Holiday & Safaris representative. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Arusha arriving in time for check in. Rest of the day at leisure. All meals are excluded. 

From the second to the seventh day(inclusive), you will climb and descend Mount Kilimanjaro on your preferred route; the route options for this tour package are Machame Route, and Marangu Route. You will do the six days version of whichever of the two routes you select; please follow the links in the tour details above to see the detailed climbing itineraries for each of the routes before making a selection.
On the final day of descent from the mountain (the seventh day), our driver will meet you at the mountain gate from where he will drive you to your hotel in Arusha; the remainder of the day will be spent relaxing in preparation for the next day when you will start your Northern Tanzania Safari. 

After breakfast, you will be driven to Lake Manyara National Park – a diverse national park located on the base of the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Inside the park, you will see a diverse collection of wild animals such as elephants, the world-famous tree climbing lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, hippos, impalas, etc. Baboons and monkeys can also be seen in the forests inside the national park. Evening drive to Karatu for Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D).

The park is dominated by a shallow and extensive soda lake that is home to resident and migratory birds; the most noticeable of them all are the pink-hued flamingos.  

After Breakfast you will be picked up from hotel and depart to Tarangire National Park for game drive with picnic lunches. Tarangire is famous for big groups of Elephants and astonishing landscapes where guests will have an opportunity to experience the few remaining ancient large Baobab trees. After breakfast, you will be driven to Tarangire National Park for half day of game viewing; the drive from Karatu to Tarangire takes about 3 hours.
Tarangire National Park is dominated by elephants; it has one of the highest concentration of elephants in Africa. The elephants share the park with giraffes, waterbucks, impalas, baboons, warthogs, pods of hippos and spotted hyenas. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs also reside in the park but are not very easy to spot.
In the evening you will be driven from Tarangire to Arusha for Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D). 

Today you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival in Zanzibar, our guide will drive you to your hotel in Stone Town. Late in the afternoon, you will head out for a tour of Prison Island; here you will see giant turtles and you will also visit a slave museum. In the evening, you will venture out to Forodhani Gardens where you will enjoy seafood with the locals; here the catch of the day is prepared and sold to locals and tourists.

After breakfast, you will head out to the historical Stone Town; here you will see historical buildings and places such as the House of Wonders (Beit al ajaib), the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), the Arab Fort and the Slave Chambers amongst many other attractions. You will also see and walk on ancient winding alleyways as they were walked upon by the inhabitants of the city hundreds of years ago.
In the afternoon, you will be driven to Nungwi beach where the rest of the day will be spent at leisure on the beach.

This day will be spent relaxing and swimming at the beach after many days of travel and hiking; if you feel energetic, you can add in a number of water sports to your beach routine. Depending on your preferences, you can engage in diving, snorkeling, paragliding, jet skiing and beach volleyball. The restful day will come to a beautiful end as you watch a spectacular sunset as the African sun sets across the Indian ocean.

From day two today seven(inclusive), you will climb and descend Mount Kilimanjaro on either Machame Route, Marangu Route or Lemosho Route; Please follow the links in the tour details section above to see the detailed day by day climbing itinerary for each route.

On the day of descent (the seventh day), our driver will drive you from the mountain gate to your hotel in Arusha; the rest of the day will be spent relaxing as you prepare to go on safari the next day. 

On this day you will visit Olpopongi Maasai Village where you will experience traditional Maasai culture in an authentic setting; you will interact with the Maasai as they go about their daily routine.
In the afternoon, you will head out to Shanga Cultural Village where you will interact with friendly locals dedicated to promoting local arts and crafts. At Shanga you will also have the opportunity to sample local cuisine served in an open-air restaurant. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D) 

After Breakfast you will be picked up from hotel and depart to Tarangire National Park for game drive with picnic lunches. Early in the morning, you will be driven from Tarangire National Park to Lake Manyara National Park where you will enjoy a day of game viewing. Lake Manyara National Park is located within the Great Rift Valley and is dominated by a towering escarpment on one side and an extensive shallow lake on the other side.

At Lake Manyara National Park, you will see elephants, the world-famous tree-climbing lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, hippos, impalas, baboons, and monkeys. The lake also attracts many birds; you will see many resident and migratory birds but the most noticeable of these birds are the pink-hued flamingos. After breakfast your driver will drive you to Lake Eyasi; this region is home to the Hadzabe bushmen who have managed to preserve the ancient ways of life. At Lake Eyasi an authentic cultural experience awaits you; the Hadzabe bushmen will willingly show you where they live and how they hunt and live their daily lives.

On this day you will also pay the Dagota pastoral nomads and herdsmen a visit; this is another tribe whose culture is well preserved. The Dagota culture resemble that of the Maasai but apart from being pastoralists, they are also blacksmiths; they make knives and arrowheads which they trade with the Hadzabe bushmen.

The weather around Lake Eyasi is nearly always very hot and intense, but this is what the experience truly African and unique.

After breakfast, you will be driven to Ngorongoro Crater a place like no other in world; here, the largest unflooded caldera in the world is home to approximately 30,000 animals at any time. Ngorongoro Crater has the highest concentration of wild animals in Africa and these animals co-exist with humans; the Maasai people live and graze their animals inside the crater along the wild animals.
You will see herds of buffalos, elands, zebras, wildebeests, warthogs, hippos, rhinos and elephants; large populations of predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas also thrive here due to the rich availability of prey. After a very early breakfast, your driver will drive you to the Serengeti – a land of endless plains, huge herds of wildebeests and the finest of African predators. Serengeti is the most visited park in Tanzania due to its grandeur and diversity of big game and predators.

Day - Day Itinerary

DAY 1: JRO – INTERNATIONAL ARRIVAL - ARUSHA

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and assisted by Africa Marula Holiday & Safaris representative. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Arusha arriving in time for check in. Rest of the day at leisure. All meals are excluded. 

From day two today seven(inclusive), you will climb and descend Mount Kilimanjaro on either Machame Route, Marangu Route or Lemosho Route; Please follow the links in the tour details section above to see the detailed day by day climbing itinerary for each route.

On the day of descent (the seventh day), our driver will drive you from the mountain gate to your hotel in Arusha; the rest of the day will be spent relaxing as you prepare to go on safari the next day. 

On this day you will visit Olpopongi Maasai Village where you will experience traditional Maasai culture in an authentic setting; you will interact with the Maasai as they go about their daily routine.
In the afternoon, you will head out to Shanga Cultural Village where you will interact with friendly locals dedicated to promoting local arts and crafts. At Shanga you will also have the opportunity to sample local cuisine served in an open-air restaurant. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D) 

After Breakfast you will be picked up from hotel and depart to Tarangire National Park for game drive with picnic lunches. Tarangire is famous for big groups of Elephants and astonishing landscapes where guests will have an opportunity to experience the few remaining ancient large Baobab trees. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D).

Early in the morning, you will be driven from Tarangire National Park to Lake Manyara National Park where you will enjoy a day of game viewing. Lake Manyara National Park is located within the Great Rift Valley and is dominated by a towering escarpment on one side and an extensive shallow lake on the other side.

At Lake Manyara National Park, you will see elephants, the world-famous tree-climbing lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, hippos, impalas, baboons, and monkeys. The lake also attracts many birds; you will see many resident and migratory birds but the most noticeable of these birds are the pink-hued flamingos. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D). 

After breakfast your driver will drive you to Lake Eyasi; this region is home to the Hadzabe bushmen who have managed to preserve the ancient ways of life. At Lake Eyasi an authentic cultural experience awaits you; the Hadzabe bushmen will willingly show you where they live and how they hunt and live their daily lives.

On this day you will also pay the Dagota pastoral nomads and herdsmen a visit; this is another tribe whose culture is well preserved. The Dagota culture resemble that of the Maasai but apart from being pastoralists, they are also blacksmiths; they make knives and arrowheads which they trade with the Hadzabe bushmen.

The weather around Lake Eyasi is nearly always very hot and intense, but this is what the experience truly African and unique.
Late in the afternoon, drive to Karatu Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D). 

After breakfast, you will be driven to Ngorongoro Crater a place like no other in world; here, the largest unflooded caldera in the world is home to approximately 30,000 animals at any time. Ngorongoro Crater has the highest concentration of wild animals in Africa and these animals co-exist with humans; the Maasai people live and graze their animals inside the crater along the wild animals.
You will see herds of buffalos, elands, zebras, wildebeests, warthogs, hippos, rhinos and elephants; large populations of predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas also thrive here due to the rich availability of prey. Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D). 

After a very early breakfast, your driver will drive you to the Serengeti – a land of endless plains, huge herds of wildebeests and the finest of African predators. Serengeti is the most visited park in Tanzania due to its grandeur and diversity of big game and predators.
You will arrive around noon and late in the afternoon, you will head of four a game drive before return to you hotel/camp, Dinner and overnight as per the standard and type of accommodation option requested. (B, L, D). 

These two full days will be spent following the great migration in the Serengeti; depending on the time of the year, you will observe one of the following aspects of the great migration.
– Wildebeest Calving (Calving Season – Ndutu Region): January to March
– Grumeti River Crossing – Grumeti River: May to July
– Mara River Crossing – Mara River: August to October
– Migration back to the Serengeti (from Masai Mara): November & December

After breakfast, your driver will drive you to Seronera Airstrip which is located inside Serengeti National Park; from here, you will fly on a light aircraft to the spice islands of Zanzibar.
On arrival in Zanzibar, our guide will drive you to your hotel in Stone Town; late in the afternoon, you will head out for a tour of Prison Island. Prison Island, is home to a historical slave museum and giant tortoises. In the evening, you will head out to Forodhani Gardens where you will enjoy seafood with the locals; here the catch of the day is prepared and sold to locals and tourists.

After breakfast, you will head out to the historical Stone Town where time seems to have stood still; here you will see ancient wind alleyways as they were walked upon by the inhabitants of the city hundreds of years ago. You will also see historical buildings and places such as the House of Wonders (Beit al Ajaib), the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), the Arab Fort and the Slave Chambers amongst many other attractions.

You will also visit crafts shops, coffee shops, and the central market. Late in In the afternoon, you will be driven to Nungwi beach where the rest of the day will be spent at leisure on the beach.

These three days will be spent at leisure on the beach; you can add in a number of water sports to your beach routine. Depending on your preferences, you can also engage in diving, snorkeling, paragliding, jet skiing and beach volleyball. Late in the afternoons, you will enjoy watching beautiful sunsets as the sun disappears across the turquoise Indian Ocean.

Day - Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Zanzibar

Meet on arrival at Zanzibar International Airport or harbour, transfer to Tembo House Hotel or similar properties set in the heart of Zanzibar Stone Town overlooking the Blue Indian Ocean. Dinner and stay overnight in BB basis. 

A guided town tour takes you through narrow streets of the old Stone Town, where history seems to stand still. Visit the House of Wonders, Fredy Mercury House, the Arab Fort, Zanzibar’s bustling market, former slave market, Tip Tipp House, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors and balconies, two cathedrals and mosques.

You will have free time in the afternoon to explore Stone Town further on your own or to relax. In the evening, take a sunset cruise along Stone Town waterfront. Stop at Forodhani gardens for a glance at the evening life. Dinner at a local restaurant or at the hotel. BB 

After breakfast, you are transferred to Kizimbani Village for a spice tour. You will have the opportunity to see spices like cloves, cinnamon, black pepper, Nutmeg, turmeric root, actually growing in the plantations. Other tropical fruits such as jackfruit, custard, apple, rambutan, carambola can also be seen and tasted. Furthermore, you will see plants like the henna bush, lipstick tree and lemongrass.
Visit the Kidichi Persian Baths built under the first Sultan of Zanzibar named Sultan Said Said bin Sultan in 1850 and the Maruhubi Palace Ruins built in 1880 which were built especially for housing 99 of the third sultan’s harem. Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Beach

Arrival at Zanzibar Airport meet and greet road transfer to beach resort which is located in the Southeast Coast of Zanzibar. Welcome drink upon arrival, check in and relax. Dinner and stay overnight in HB basis.

Enjoy free time to relax on the beaches and swim, snorkel or dive in the clear warm waters. A cocktail and a golden sunset go hand in hand, so be sure to indulge as the sun melts away and the sky turns to night. In the evening, wander the streets and choose a restaurant in which to kick back and enjoy good company and delicious cuisine. Dinner and stay overnight in all HB basis.

After breakfast we drive to Kizimkazi fishing village for a dolphin tour, after arriving we take a motorized boat and start searching for dolphins. If we lucky we can use about 5 to 10 minutes cruising on search of dolphins. After swimming with them we go to shallow water for snorkelling before getting back to the beach for taking shower, have lunch and a bit of beach leisure. After leisure we drive to Jozani forest to see the red colubus monkeys and visit the floating mangrove bridge. Jozani has an excellent nature trail and the guides are well trained and informative. A walk through this impressive flora and fauna is one of the highlights Zanzibar has to offer. After the tour we drive back to the hotel for dinner and stay overnight on HB Basis.

A guided town tour takes you through narrow streets of the old Stone Town, where history seems to stand still. Visit the House of Wonders, Fredy Mercury House, the Arab Fort, Zanzibar’s bustling market, former slave market, Tip Tipp House, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors and balconies, two cathedrals and many mosques. After the tour we take lunch by our own cost before taking a boat to Prison Island. The use of the island has changed overtime.

Although it was originally built as a prison it was never put into that function. Later it was used as a quarantine of slaves for the whole of East Africa. The remnants of the built are still visible. The island offers a stunning view of the Town especially during the night; there is very beautiful minor sandy beach where swimming on the crystal waters is marvelous. The coral reefs surrounding the island provide an opportunity of snorkeling. This is also a home of the giant tortoise, which is now under strict conservation. A short-guided tour around the island will provide the real picture. After the tour we ride back to Stone Town to catch our vehicle to the hotel for dinner and stay overnight.

After breakfast, relax at your beach hotel or transferred to Stone town for you last shopping before taken to Zanzibar Airport for your flight back home or your next destination.

The day is left free to wind down after the safari before your flight home. Depending on flight times you could go and explore Moshi town and grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport.

The Northern Circuit route is one of the best routes on Kilimanjaro, offering nearly 360 degrees of beautiful scenery including the quiet, rarely visited northern slopes. As the longest route on Kilimanjaro, the Northern Circuit also has the most acclimatization time and the highest summit success rate.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa

We depart Moshi for Londorossi Gate, which takes about 4 hours, where you will complete entry formalities. Then drive to the Lemosho trailhead. Upon arrival at trailhead, we begin hiking through undisturbed forest which winds to the first camp site.

-Distance: 8 km/5 miles
-Hiking Time 5-6 hours
-Habitat: Heath
We continue on the trail leading out of the rain forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 Camp. Here we catch our first glimpse of Kibo across the plateau.’

Lava Tower to Moir Hut

We continue to the east up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower – a 300 ft tall volcanic rock formation. Then we divert from the main trail to Moir Hut, a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Shira Plateau is one of the highest plateaus

Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
-Elevation: 15,190 ft to 13,044 ft meters(4600m to 3900m)

We begin the day climbing up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower – a 300 ft tall volcanic rock formation. We descend down to Barranco Camp through the strange but beautiful Senecio Forest to an altitude of 13,000 ft. Although you begin and end the day at the same elevation, the time spent at higher altitude is very beneficial for acclimatization.

We trek out of Moir Valley with a moderately steep climb, then hike to the summit of Lent Hills before returning to the main trail. The path crosses a rock field and gently undulates before reaching Buffalo Camp. This section of the trail offers great views across the plains that lie north of Kilimanjaro and stretch out to the Kenyan/Tanzanian border.

As we head up Buffalo Ridge, the terrain becomes increasingly sparse. This route is rarely travelled and we will enjoy its mountain wilderness feel. We trek through remote valleys on to the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro until we arrive at Third Cave.

-Distance: 6 km/4 miles
-Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
-Elevation: 19,341 ft to 10,065
-Distance: 12 km/7 miles
-Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
-Habitat: Artic
Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. At Gilman’s point (18,600 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.
From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi.

Day - Day Itinerary

Day 1: Lemosho Starting Point to Mti Mkubwa

-Elevation: 7,742 ft to 9,498 ft meters(2100m to 2700m)
-Distance: 6 km/4 miles
-Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
-Habitat: Rain Forest
We depart Moshi for Londorossi Gate, which takes about 4 hours, where you will complete entry formalities. Then drive to the Lemosho trailhead. Upon arrival at trailhead, we begin hiking through undisturbed forest which winds to the first camp site. 

-Elevation: 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft meters(2700m to 3600m)
-Distance: 8 km/ 5miles
-Hiking Time 5-6 hours
-Habitat: Health
We continue on the trail leading out of the rain forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 Camp. Here we catch our first glimpse of Kibo across the plateau.

-Distance: 11 km/ 7 miles
-Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
-Habitat: Heath
We explore the Shira Plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east on moorland meadows towards Shira 2 Camp. Then we will have an option to sport and acclimatize at Shira Cathedral, a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Shira Plateau is one of the highest plateaus on earth.

-Distance: 7 km/4 miles
-Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
-Elevation: 15,190 ft to 13,044 ft meters(4600m to 3900m)
-Distance: 3 km/2 miles
-Hiking Time: 2-3 hours
-Habitat: Alpine Desert
We begin the day climbing up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower – a 300 ft tall volcanic rock formation. We descend down to Barranco Camp through the strange but beautiful Senecio Forest to an altitude of 13,000 ft. Although you begin and end the day at the same elevation, the time spent at higher altitude is very beneficial for acclimatization.

-Distance: 5 km/3 miles
-Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
-Habitat: Alpine Desert
We begin the day by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall. Then we climb the non-technical but steep, nearly 900 ft cliff. From the top of the Barranco Wall we cross a series of hills and valleys until we descend sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb up leads us to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day meant for acclimatization.

-Distance: 4 km/2 miles
-Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
-Habitat: Alpine Desert
We leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the rocky section to Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are viewable from this position.

-Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft meters(4600m to 5895m)
-Distance: 5 km/3 miles
-Hiking Time: 7-8 hours
-Habitat: Arctic
Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
-Elevation: 19,341 ft to 10,065 ft meters(5895m to 3000m)
-Distance: 12 km/7 miles
-Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
-Habitat: Rain Forest
Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.
From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.

-Distance: 10 km/6 miles
-Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
-Habitat: Rain Forest
On our last day, we continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi

Lemosho Route

The Lemosho route is one of our preferred routes due to its low traffic, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate.The Lemosho route joins the Machame route at Shira 2 Camp and then follows the same route through the southern circuit and descending at Mweka Gate.
