1 Day

Moshi / Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park

Moshi / Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park
In the early morning, we will collect you from your hotel in Arusha / Moshi and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. The park encompasses the northwest bank and part of the alkaline Lake Manyara which itself rests in the Great Rift Valley. The park is perhaps best known for its flamingos, pelicans and cormorants but it is also the home for a few hundred other species of birds; it is therefore a paradise for ornithologists. Next to a great variety of birds, the Big Game can also be seen. With a bit of luck you might see elephants in the wooded regions and with even more fortune the tree-climbing lions.

Indeed, it was thought for a long time that the Lake Manyara National Park is the only place where lions can be found with this atypical behavior of climbing trees. Baboons and vervet monkeys are also found amongst the forested areas and in the more open spaces, giraffes nibble at the fresh leaves while the various types of antelopes common to the region browse for tasty shoots. After a picnic lunch, there will be more time for further game and wildlife watching before it is time to return to Arusha / Moshi.

Depart Tanzania
The day is left free to wind down after the safari before your flight home. Depending on flight times you could go and explore Moshi town and grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport.
*Mount Kilimanjaro trekking, Wildlife Safari, Zanzibar and other add-ons are available if you wish to continue exploring Tanzania.

1 Day

Moshi / Arusha
Kikuletwa Hot Springs
Chemka Hot Springs

We will pick you up from your Moshi / Arusha hotel early morning for the hour-long drive to the Chemka Hot Springs. The road is very bumpy and windy, so hang on! During the drive, don’t forget to enjoy the wonderful scenery and authentic Tanzanian life as it unfolds along the road. When we arrive, feel free to be you and linger at the edge of the springs, taking in the blue, blue waters and the lush green of the surrounding forest. Take a leisurely swim (do not forget that the waters are very warm, so you will not feel like an Olympic sprint) or float in a world that is all your own, listening to the water lapping and the birds overhead. If you are feeling adventurous you can play on the rope swing.

The pond can be very deep, in some places up to 10 meters, but the water is so clear that you can see right to the bottom. Eat your lunch in the shade of the trees. You will have plenty of time to spot the beauty of Chemka Hot Springs.

Moshi / Arusha
Arusha National Park

In the morning, we will collect you from your hotel in Arusha / Moshi and take you to the Arusha National Park. The park has an unbelievable variety of fauna and flora, which cannot fail to impress. Your day trip will include a visit to the Ngurdoto Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, and baboons can be seen all year round as well as many different bird species. At the Momella Gate, an armed ranger will be waiting for you to accompany you on the walking safari that will give you the chance to experience the wildlife up-close. Only a few other national parks in Tanzania give you such an opportunity and it is something that should not be missed. Lunch will be taken at a picnic place and in the afternoon, you will continue your tour in the safari vehicle through the Arusha National Park. After plenty of time allocated for you to observe the wildlife, we will take you back to Arusha / Moshi.

The park hosts over 550 species of bird, including the world largest, the Maasai ostrich.Tarangire is a small park but it attracts the biggest animals.

You will have a great view from the open roof of your 4×4 car, so get your camera ready for giraffe, warthog, impala, cheetah, mongoose, buffalo, and baboons. Look up at tree-level to spot one of the famous climbing leopards of Tarangire, and python and elephants. Mount Kilimanjaro FAQs

Mount Kilimanjaro FAQs

Mount Kilimanjaro

FAQ's

Climbing Africa’s highest peak is a thrilling adventure, and we’re here to help you prepare. Our Mt. Kilimanjaro FAQs answer all your essential questions—from choosing the best route to understanding acclimatization, what to pack, and fitness requirements. Whether you’re a seasoned climber or attempting your first trek, these FAQs will guide you through everything you need to know for a safe and successful summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

When is the best time to trek Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro can trek all year. Mid-December, January, February, and March are the warmest months, almost clear of clouds. April and early May may get heavy rain or snow, but is a better time to visit if you want a quiet clear mountain. By late June, July and through August it can be very cold at night, but the sky is clear above 3000m offering great views.

Through September and October, it gets steadily warmer. October is particularly good if you want only a few drops of rain, mild weather and few people on the mountain. November to mid-December is the time of the ‘short rains’ with possible afternoon thunderstorms but clear evenings. There can also be heavy snow towards the summit.

Anyone who intends to climb Kilimanjaro or any mountain for that matter should consider their fitness level and make sure that adequate and appropriate preparation is undertaken. The routes on Kilimanjaro that lead to the summit are not technical, but full consideration of the conditions of climbing to Uhuru peak should be at the back of every climber’s mind as they prepare for the climb. Note that the climb is not easy.
Understand that altitude sickness affects everyone regardless of age or fitness level. Although most hikers will say that it is psychological, trekkers need to be physically and mentally ready for the hike. It is important to see your doctor for any health risks before the trek.

Be protected against malaria, hepatitis A, tetanus, typhoid, polio, and yellow fever. It is important to note that you will be required to provide a valid yellow fever certificate on arrival in Tanzania. All travelers from Europe through or transiting through an endemic country; including the airports in Nairobi (Kenya), and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) are required to have a valid yellow fever certificate. Consult your travel clinic for latest advice on different prophylaxis available against malaria.

All weather conditions can be experienced during the climb. Summit night itself will be very cold and perhaps even partly frozen, with snow falling and on the ground. You will need to wear warm and windproof clothing.

We will provide tents with roll mattresses while you are on the mountain. The porters will handle setup of the camps for each day. There will also be camping chairs, tables and lamps provided for meals and rest.

Travel insurance is essential. It is strongly recommended that comprehensive travel insurance is taken out which includes cover against cancellation charges. Depending on the reason for the cancellation, you may be able to reclaim the cancellation charges (less any applicable excess) under the terms of the insurance policy. If you are undertaking a Kilimanjaro trek, it is essential that the travel insurance covers high altitude trekking and adventure travel.

Summiting Kilimanjaro under an African full moon can be an unforgettable experience, with the snow twinkling and the path lit by the light of the moon.
What luggage and Personal Equipment will I need?
Backpack
Your backpack must be lightweight, strong and preferably waterproof, without wheels. Porters will carry your bag in heavy duty waterproof bags for added protection. The weight limit for bag AND its contents must not exceed 15kg.
Small rucksack/day bag
Your day pack should be waterproof and lightweight but large enough to carry the following: waterproofs, fleece, long trekking trousers (if walking in shorts), warm hat and gloves, sun hat, sun cream, platypus (at least 2 liters), water bottle (1-2 liters), tissues and your packed lunch. Most people normally find that this adds up to about 3 to 5kg. Camera equipment can be heavy so think carefully when deciding what to take.
Sleeping bag
Down or synthetic sleeping bags are recommended, but they must be of 4-season comfort rating (temperature – 10’C to – 5’C). A silk or fleece liner helps to keep your bag clean and warm.
Trekking Poles
Trekking poles are strongly recommended and can usually be rented in Moshi.
Water Bottle or Platypus/Camelback hydration system
Water along the trail must never be considered as drinkable until purified. Take at least two 2 liter personal water bottles or a system that allows for this much water. A personal supply of tablets/drops for water purification system is essential. Powdered fruit juice can be used to disguise the taste. If you elect to use a hydration system with a tube, then it is essential that the bladder and tube are insulated for high altitude and below freezing temperatures.
Sunglasses/snow goggles
A good pair of sunglasses/snow goggles are essential for protection against UV rays and glare at high altitudes.
Sun hat, sunscreen & lip balm
Choose a high factor sunscreen (SPF 30 or more) to protect your skin against the sun at high altitudes. Lip balm or Vaseline will protect your lips in the hot and cold weather.
Torch/batteries/bulb
A head torch is essential for finding things at night and finding your way on summit night. Remember to bring some spare batteries and a bulb. There are no facilities on the mountain to recharge any digital equipment.
Toiletries
Keep heavy cosmetics to a minimum. Essentials are toothbrush/paste and small nail brush. ‘Wet Wipes’ are great for an alternative to washing and a quick clean up.
Personal first aid kit
On each trek, a first aid kit is carried, but you should have your blister kit, the supply of plasters, paracetamol, ibuprofen, and other essentials.
Personal supplementary snacks
Although sufficient food is supplied on this tour, we recommend that you bring some high energy snacks like cereal bars and chocolate with you.

Your travel insurance should at minimum protect you against trip cancellation and trip interruption; this can be useful should you need to cancel your trip due to circumstances such as sickness, emergencies or training injury.

Your Insurance should also cover high altitude trekking (do not confuse this with mountaineering or mountain climbing which is not covered by most insurance providers) and medical evacuation and repatriation costs. If you reside in the USA, we recommend Travel Guard and If you reside outside the USA we recommend World Nomads.

Foreigners seeking to enter the United Republic of Tanzania should be in possession of a valid passport, at least six months prior to expiration. The passport is to be presented to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point: border station, airport, harbor. The passport must be presented along with one of the following:

– A valid visa
– Resident permit
– A pass
A visitor must also present an onward or return ticket together with proof that the visitor has sufficient funds to support himself or herself while in Tanzania.

All foreigners from non-Commonwealth countries are required to have a valid visa unless their countries have agreements with Tanzania under which the visa requirement is waived.

Exemptions: Citizens of Commonwealth countries are not required to obtain visas unless they are citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, or India.

The visa is permission granted to a foreigner who intends to travel to Tanzania on business, for a holiday, to study or conduct research, or for other approved activities. When entering Tanzania, the visitor with a visa may then obtain from the immigration control officer, a pass or any other authority to enter the country.

Visas are issued by the following:
The office of the Director of Immigration Services, Dar es Salaam, and the office of the Principal Immigration Officer, Zanzibar.
Tanzanian representatives abroad: Visas can be obtained at Tanzanian Embassies and High Commissions, such as the Tanzanian Embassy of the United States.
Entry points to the United Republic of Tanzania: principally Namanga, Tunduma, Sirari, Horohoro, Kigoma port, Dar es Salaam International Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport, Zanzibar Harbour and Zanzibar Airport.

To stay healthy and safe while on Safari, please observe the following:

Make sure your food and drinking water are safe. Food and waterborne diseases are the primary cause of illness in travelers. Travelers’ diarrhea can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites, which are found throughout East Africa and can contaminate food or water. Infections may cause diarrhea and vomiting (E. coli, Salmonella, cholera, and parasites), fever (typhoid fever and toxoplasmosis), or liver damage (hepatitis).

To stay healthy, do…

– Wash your hands often with soap and water or, if hands are not visibly soiled, use a waterless, alcohol-based hand rub to remove potentially infectious materials from your skin and help prevent disease transmission.
– In developing countries, drink only bottled or boiled water, or carbonated (bubbly) drinks in cans or bottles. Avoid tap water, fountain drinks, and ice cubes. If this is not possible, learn how to make water safer to drink.
– Take your malaria prevention medication before, during, and after travel, as directed. (See your health care provider for a prescription.)
– To prevent fungal and parasitic infections, keep feet clean and dry, and do not go barefoot, even on beaches.
– Always use latex condoms to reduce the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
– Protect yourself from mosquito insect bites:
– Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats when outdoors.
– Use insect repellents that contain DEET (N, N-diethylmethyltoluamide).
– If no screening or air conditioning is available: use a pyrethroid-containing spray in living and sleeping areas during evening and night-time hours; sleep under bed nets, preferably insecticide-treated ones.

Do not…

– Do not eat food purchased from street vendors or food that is not well cooked to reduce the risk of infection (i.e., hepatitis A and typhoid fever).
– Do not drink beverages with ice.
– Avoid dairy products, unless you know they have been pasteurized.
– Do not swim in fresh water to avoid exposure to certain water-borne diseases such as schistosomiasis.
– Do not handle animals, especially monkeys, dogs, and cats, to avoid bites and serious diseases (including rabies and plague). Consider pre-exposure rabies vaccination if you might have extensive  unprotected outdoor exposure in rural areas.
– Do not share needles for tattoos, body piercing or injections to prevent infections such as HIV and hepatitis B.
– Avoid poultry farms, bird markets, and other places where live poultry is raised or kept.
